Fund-raising for the Restoration

With the completion of the restoration of the North roofs of All Saints in sight,  the Restoration Committee is now turning its thoughts towards the restoration of the South roof.  As usual £250 000 seems just as an impossible amount to raise as the previous two targets have seemed.

However the last two months have seen many enjoyable and profitable events which will encourage us all to reach our next target.

In June we held the Summer Lunch, which you read about in the last edition of ‘Community’. This raised £200. The Cream Tea, hosted by Audrey and John Little raised a further £220 and the concert given by the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral raised £300.

The Summer Fete was a great success despite the onset of heavy rain about 3.30pm. In fact the rain helped because many people visiting the River Festival, came into the church to shelter and bought up all the remaining refreshments.  The whole event raised  £1352.

We have also had on-going fund-raising activities, like the ‘Smarties’ initiative which has raised over £500 and the tubes are still being returned full of money.  The Saturday Market has now become something of an institution for many regular supporters and during the last six months has raised another thousand pounds. In all it has raised £7400.

I would like to thank all of you who have made these amounts a possibility. Some of you help each week and some when you can and all is greatly appreciated.

But that is not the end…………..  We have more events and activities in the pipeline. Many of the Thursday Lunchtime concerts add to the Restoration Fund and the Committee is planning a new initiative now that  just about all the Smarties have been consumed.

If any of you have heard from friends of a good idea for an event please pass the information on to the Committee.  The events above raised  approximately £3600, which is just  1.5% of what we need to restore the South roofs.
